HENRY MATHRE DIED IN MINNESOTA

A number of Story City relatives and friends attended the funeral Monday of Henry Mathre, which was held at the St. Paul Lutheran church, Rev. Oppedal officiating. Mr. Mathre was 43 years old and died at his home in Glenwood, Minn., from pneumonia. He leaves his wife, four children Marvel, Martin, Sylvelyn and Henry, besides father, three brothers and five sisters.

Obituary

Henry Oscar Mathre, second child of Sewell and Hattie Mathre, was born August 14, 1889 in Walsh county, N. D. He was baptized by Rev. M. C. Holseth and the family moved to Stanhope in 1891. Here Henry grew to manhood and was confirmed in the fall of 1903 by Rev. T. T. Heimarck.

He attended Waldorf college and graduated from the commercial course in the spring of 1910. He farmed four years at Stanhope and one year in North Dakota.

On Dec. 27, 1920, he was united in marriage to Hanna Knutson, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. M. N. Knutson. They farmed for nine years near Willmar, Minn. The last years they have lived at Glenwood, Minn.

Henry was a loving and considerate husband and father and leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife, four children, Marvel, Martin, Helen and Henry. His father and mother, three brothers, Laurence of Estherville, Thomas of Stanhope and Albert of Story City; five sisters, Anna Hoversten, Martha Favinger, Helen Fardal of Stanhope, Alice of Des Moines and Marie of Brighton.

On Jan. 11 Henry was taken sick with pneumonia and brot to the hospital at Glenwood, and passed away quietly and peacefully on Tuesday evening, Jan. 17, at 10:30 p. m.

Funeral service was conducted Friday, Jan. 20 at Glenwood by Rev. Carl Hanson of Alexandria, a classmate of Rev. L. A. Mathre, and on Monday, Jan. 23 at St. Paul's Lutheran church of Stanhope by Rev. H. O. Oppedal. The Lake Center male octet sang, "Asleep in Jesus," "My Jesus, as Thou Wilt" and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." The body was laid to rest at St. Paul's cemetery beside his brother, Martin, who preceded him in death March 20, 1909. The pall bearers were Lewis and Irvin Lund, Iver and Elmer Nelson, Lawrence Lund and Edward Anderson.

What peace to soothe our sorrow;
To know that on some distant day,
The future joys will compensate our sorrow."
