IVER HOVE CAME TO AMERICA IN 1870

Iver E. Hove was born in Vik Sogn, Norway, Nov. 30, 1848. When a young man he left his parents to come to America and came to Capron, Ill. in 1870.

On Jan. 4, 1875, he was united in marriage to Berta Wauge. The newly wedded couple resided in illinois the first two years, then they moved to Hamilton county and established their home on the Iver Hove farm southeast of Stanhope.

on their arrival in Iowa he and his family united with the Lutheran church where he held membership all his days.

In September 1910 he with his wife moved from the farm to Stanhope, where they lived a quiet and happy life until in 1926 their home was broken up with the passing of his wife. Then he moved back to the farm to live with his son.

October 1929 he suffered a stroke which left him an invalid, and last July he was taken bedfast, the last five weeks he laid in a semi-conscious condition. On Sunday, June 26, he quietly fell asleep. At the time of his death he was 83 years, 6 months and 26 days of age.

He leaves to mourn his death four sons: Edwin, Imbert and Julian on the home place and Ingvald of Boone. His wife and two daughters, Christina and Augusta, preceded him in death.

Mr. Hove was one of the early pioneers in this community, thus sharing in the struggles and hardships of these early days. During his invalidism he experienced moments of loneliness, but passed his time reading and waiting until his call came. He was a God fearing pioneer, for country, home and church. He delighted to talk about our Savior and cheerfully confessed that he knew nothing else unto salvation save Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Funeral rites were held at the residence at 1:15 p.m. and at the church at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Hans Oppedal. Interment took place at Lake Center cemetery. Music for the funeral was furnished by Miss Agnes Larson of Des Moines. Those from out of town who attended the funeral service were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ristrim and Agnes Larson of Des Moines, Vera and Beatrice Larson of Capron, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fardal of Webster City, and also a number from Story City.
