Obituary of Anna Gydesen

Mrs. Anna Gydesen, nee Anna Hansine Jensen, was born in Klatrup, Smidstrup parish, Yilland, Denmark, Aug. 15, 1843, and died at the hospital in Story City March 12, 1932. She was at her death 88 years and 7 months old. Mrs. Gydesen was the oldest of a family of eight children and was the second of the family to emigrate to America, coming in 1872. She lived in Nevada for a short time where she was engaged in housework. Nov. 3, 1873, she was united in marriage to Hans Gydesen. To this union was born only one child, a daughter, Mrs. Hans Peterson of California. The Gydesen's settled on a farm two miles west of Randall where they made their home until Mr. Gydesen's death in 1898 when she built herself a house in Randall where she has lived since with the exception of a short which she spent at the Old Peoples Home in Story City. She was blessed with good health and thus she was able to take care of herself until the last few weeks of her life. Mrs. Gydesen was a devout Cristian and was daily in communion with her Lord in His word and prayer. She leaves to mourn her loss, her daughter and six grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Martin Christensen in California; one brother, Jens Peterson at Blooming Prairie, Minn. She also leaves a host of friends in and around Randall where she spent so many years. She was for many years a member and faithful worker in Elim Lutheran church and ladies aid. She had a big heart for the Missions. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 15, at the John Peterson home at 1:30, and from the Elim Lutheran church at 2:00, conducted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud. A large audience were present to pay their last respect to this noble Christian and neighbor. Pall bearers were H. J. Miller, J. J. Miller, John Okland, Andrew Matson, A. O. Rasmussen and S. M. Teigland. Burial was made in the Danish cemetery. Some of her friends gave $9 to Missions in her honor.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The marriage record of Mary Gydeson, daughter of Hans and Anna Gydeson, gives Anna's maiden name as Peterson. This obituary also names her brother as Jens Peterson. However, contrary to this, this obituary clearly states her maiden name was Anna Hansine Jensen.
