DEATH SUMMONS PETER MATHRE

Well Known Former Story City Man Died at His Home in Webster City

Peter Mathre, on of the long time and best known business men of Webster City, passed away at his home there Friday night. His death was caused by diabetes. He had been failing rapidly in health since before Thanksgiving, and during the past three weeks his condition has been considered critical. However, during the past few days he was apparently much better, but Friday his condition grew suddenly worse. He was sixty-seven years of age.

The deceased was born in Kendall county, Ill., July 17, 1855, where he grew to young manhood. He graduated from a business college in Aurora, Ill., and in 1878 moved to Iowa, locating at Story City where he ran a general store. He was married to Miss Elsie I. Ellingson of Benton county, on Oct. 7, 1881.

He moved to Webster City 34 years ago and went into the wholesale butter, egg and poultry business, in partnership with E. M. Ellingson. Upon the removal of the latter to Des Moines, Mr. Mathre went into partnership with O. E. Ellingson and was actively engaged in this business until about a year ago.

Mr. Mathre served as treasurer of Hamilton county during 1897 and 1898. He was a prominent and active member of the English Lutheran church, and also of the Elmo lodge of Odd Fellows.

The deceased is survived by his wife and three children. The children are Mrs. Emma Hoiekvam of Eagle Grove, Miss Anna J. Mathre of Des Moines, and Arnold Mathre of Livermore. Two other children, Viva Emma and Wilfred Elmer, died in infancy.
