OBITUARY

John Anderson

John Anderson was born in Rennsoien, Norway, April 26th, 1838. There he spent his early boyhood days.

In 1858, when a young man of twenty, he with his widowed mother, brother and one sister, sailed for America. Their first home here was in LaSalle Co., Ill. After a short stay there, they moved to Lisbon, Ill.

At Lisbon John married Ingeborg Anderson in 1863. The young couple located in Lee Co., Ill. but this was not to be their permanent home. Like so many others in those days, they had their mind set on sweeping prairies of central Iowa, and so in 1870 Mr. Anderson brought his family to Iowa and settled in the then sparsely settled Hamilton county. Here they shared the hardships as well as thrills and joys of early pioneer life. They established their humble home, hoping that there they should enjoy comfort and pleasure in years to come. But it was not to be so. The icy hand of death clutched Mrs. Anderson in its fatal grasp. She passed away in January, 1877, leaving her husband and four children.

In 1878 John united in marriage with Martha West. This union was blessed with three children, two girls, and one boy, Gerhard, who died in 1907. Seven years after his second marriage Mr. Anderson again sustained the loss of a devoted wife and mother. On the 24th of November, 1885, Mrs. Anderson passed to the great beyond.

A short time after the death of Mrs. Anderson, their home was abandoned and Mr. Anderson with some of the children moved to Wyoming. About thirty-five years ago, John returned to Iowa, and has since made his home continually with his son-in-law, W. E. Olson, until last fall when he moved to the Old People's Home at Story City, Iowa, where he died April 10th, 1926, lacking a few days of being 88 years old.

He is survived by six children, three brothers, 27 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.

The children are: A. J. Anderson, Lusk, Wyo.; Guvine Olson, Los Angeles, Calif.; Josie Hanson, Sturgis, S.D.; Mary Bump, Lusk, Wyo.; Tillie Olson, Jewell, Ia. and Julia Hove, Stanhope, Iowa.

The brothers are: A. S. Anderson; E. P. Anderson, both of Story City, Ia.; and A. M. Anderson, Radcliffe, Ia.

Funeral services were held at the home of W. E. Olson at 1 p. m., and at the St. Paul's church at 2 p. m., Monday, April 12th. Interment at the Lake Center cemetery, Rev. Oppedal officiated.
