OBITUARY OF O. L. HENDERSON

Oscar Henderson was born at Lisbon, Kendall Co., Ill., March 17, 1850, and died at Story City, Ia., Nov. 7, 1925, being at his death 75 years, 7 months and 23 days old.

With his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Henderson, he came to Hamilton county in 1858. Oscar was then 8 years old. Since that time he has lived in Iowa, of which 40 years on his homestead 2 miles east of Randall. With his family he moved to Story City 12 years ago, since when Story City has been his home.

March 17, 1873, he was united in marriage to Miss Malinde Olson-Boe. To this union 7 children were born, of whom 3 are dead. Those living are: Mrs. Sven Skeie, Mrs. Bert Thompson, Louis and Morris Henderson, all of Story City, Iowa.

His first wife died Nov. 16, 1891. In 1893, the 17th of March he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Bergeson, of Randall, Iowa. To this union were born 9 children of which 2 died in infancy. Those who remain are Milton of Ormsby, Minn., Richard of Randall, Ia., Henry of Mankato, Minn., Burton of Chicago, Ill., Lincoln, Celia and Ruby, Story City, Ia. He also leaves 31 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Besides his wife, children and grandchildren he also leaves 6 brothers and 3 sisters, viz., Tom Henderson of Story City, Martin of Randall, Ia., Micas of Jewell, Ia., Annas of Story City, Ia., Alex of Ames, Ole of Webster City, Mrs. O. B. Olson of Randall, Mrs. E. L. Erickson of Story City and Mrs. Guy Sowers of Randall.

Oscar Henderson was one of the oldest settlers of this community. On Monday morning, Oct. 19, he suffered a stroke at his home on Lafayette avenue, which left him in a serious condition, entirely helpless. All that loving hands could do was done for him, but he grew weaker until Saturday evening, Nov. 7, he passed away at the hospital at Story City.

With blessing rich provide us;
And may the brightness of our Saviour's face
To life eternal guide us.

Mr. Henderson enjoyed a wide acquaintance, due to his striking personality as well as his long residence here. He was endowed with a strong constitution and a keen mind. Up till his last illness he head practically never been sick, and it was noted that past summer that he was tackling sundry hard jobs in spite of his advanced years. He will be missed, not only by his immediate family but by the whole community in which he lived and labored so long.

The funeral was held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 1:30 o'clock from the home and 2 o'clock from the St. Petri church at Story City. The church was filled to capacity with sympathizing friends. Rev. Paulsrud preached a very impressive and touching sermon to both old and young. Burial was made in the Boe-Olson cemetery north of town.
