Obituary of Tom Braland

Thore E. Braland, or Tom as he was called, was born at Braland, Hjelmeland, Norway Sept. 11, 1845, and died on the old homestead 2 miles east of Randall, Ia., Nov. 24, 1924, he being then some over 79 years old. He came to America with his parents at the age of 10 years. After a year's stay in Illinois he moved with his folks to Iowa. They settled on the place where he since had made his home. In 1865 he was married to Miss Julia Olson, from Skaanevig, Norway and to this union 10 children were born, only 4 of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Tom Tjernagel and Mrs. O. C. Handeland of Radcliffe, Ia., Mrs. A. Mickelson of Randall and Theodore Braland of Alden, Minn. Mrs. Braland died some 18 years ago. Since that time, Mr. Braland has had his home with his daughter, Mrs. Mickelson, where he received the best of care until the end came. Besides his children he also leaves a brother, Mr. Andreas Braland of Radcliffe, Ia.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. G. O. Paulsrud, at 1:30 at the home and 2:00 o'clock in the church at Randall. Interment was made in the East cemetery [Mamrelund Cemetery.]
