Obituary of Peter P. Okland

Peter P. Okland was born at Okland, Norway, July 30, 1851, and died at Odin, Minn., on December 24, 1923, making him 72 years, 4 months and 25 days old.

He was married to Carrie Gunderson April 14, 1871. A year later they came to America and settled down at Lisbon, Ill., where they lived for two years. Then they moved west of Randall on a farm where they lived many years, then moved to Randall.

To this union ten children were born, five of whom preceded him in death, and five survived him. Three died in their infancy and two, namely, Mrs. Jacob Nordskog and Mrs. Adolf Idse of Story City after they were grown. These living are two sons, Peter of Rake and Gustav of Blue Earth, Minn., and three daughters, M. J. Teigland of Elmore, Minn., Mrs. John Holland of Odin, Minn., and Mrs. Ed Selgelid of Renwick. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. His wife died about six years ago. Since then he has made his home with his children or at Randall.

He was taken sick while visiting at his daughter, Mrs. Holland at Odin. He was confined to his bed for 13 weeks, but was given the best of care until he died.

He was a faithful member of our church and a very kind and faithful friend and was liked by all who knew him. He was a Christian in both word and deeds and now he had gone to his reward.

Funeral services were held at the Elim Lutheran Church at Randall Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, at two o'clock and burial was made in the Mount Olive cemetery. The pall bearers were M. B. Olson, S. J. Larson, Bert Grimsley, John Teigland, Henry Pederson and O. N. Hoveland.
