NIKOLAI HAGEN

Nikolai Hagen, who resided in Story City, died about 4:20 a.m. on December 26, 1923.

Mr. Hagen had suffered off and on from heart trouble for the last seven years.

Although loving care and medical skill did all that could be done, all was in vain--the angel of death came and he had to follow.

The funeral took place on December 29, 1923, at one o'clock from the St. Petri Lutheran Church. The church was crowded to its utmost capacity with sympathizing friends from far and near. Rev. J. N. Anderson conducted the funeral services, using for his text, "It is good to be afflicted." Ida Iverson of Stanhope rendered a beautiful duet. The St. Petri choir also sang a song.

Interment took place in the Lake Center cemetery 12 miles northwest of Story City. The following nephews were pallbearers: Severine Rasmusson, Theodore Satre, Gasper Hanson, Herman Hanson, Helmer Satre and Herman Satre.

Nikolai Hagen was born April 30, 1864, in Haga, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hoiland church. At the age of seventeen years he left Norway and came to Rochelle, Ill.

After living in Illinois a few years he came to Grinnell, Iowa. In 1889 he came to Stanhope. On May 25, 1891, he was united in marriage to Eline H. Satre.

He and his wife went to housekeeping on their farm five miles south of Stanhope, where they resided until the summer of 1921 when he and his family moved to Story City. Here Mr. Hagen, with his family, jointed the St. Petri Lutheran Church.

He leaves a wife and four daughters, Mrs. Sophia Staubitz of Alton, Ill., Hildora, Rosie and Goldie Hagen, who reside at home. One daughter, Ida, died at the age of twelve years. His one sister, Mrs. Dina Skjorestad died suddenly two years ago.
