DEDRICK MUNSON

Dedrick Munson was born near Sheldahl, Iowa, March 4, 1876 and passed away at his home in Story City, Iowa, May 14, 1940, at the age of 64 years, two months and 11 days. Mr. Munson had not been well for some time, but nobody thought that his departure was so close at hand, until a few weeks ago, when the sickness (Bright's disease) took a turn for the worse.

When he was two years old, he came with his parents to Hamilton county, where the family settled on a farm near Jewell, Iowa. At this place he spent his childhood and youth. At the age of 23 he left the farm and started a grocery store at Jewell. From Jewell he moved to Rose Grove where he was farming for ten years. Since 1926 he has had his home in Story City.

On March 14, 1899, he was united in marriage to Anna Westre, who passed away September 1, 1908 leaving him with four small children, of which one, Annis, died on April 20, 1929.

On June 15, 1910, he was married to Henrietta West. To this union one child was born. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife and four children: Arthur, of Roland; Harold and Lyle at home; Ernest in California; also 2 grandchildren and a brother, Nels Munson of St. James, Minnesota.

Mr. Munson was of a quiet disposition, a good husband and father. He was interested in church and its work. Since he came to Story City, he ahs been a member of the Bethel Lutheran church where he served as trustee for some years and where he willingly aided the church in many ways. He found peace with God thru faith in his Saviour. He was not afraid to die, but, said he, "It's the sting. Yes, death is a sting."

Funeral services were held from the home and Bethel church Saturday afternoon, May 18, with Rev. G. O. Paulsrud in charge of the service, assisted by Rev. H. O. Oppedal. The pallbearers were: Sam Jacobson, John Severaid, Emanuel Gabrielson, Albert Johnson, Erick Hove and H. L. Valen.

Relatives and friends filled the church and a goodly sum on money was given to missions in his memory. Mrs. Miller and Ethel Okland sang two appropriate songs.

Interment was made at the Jewell cemetery, with Lester Henderson in charge.
