STRICKEN WHILE ATTENDING CHURCH

Mrs. Mary Olson Suffers Stroke and Death Comes Soon After.

Mrs. Mary Olson died early Monday morning from the effects of a paralytic stroke which attacked her Sunday afternoon while attending preaching services in the Bethel church.

She had suffered a similar stroke last year, but had almost fully recovered, and when she went to the church she was apparently as well as ever. So her sudden death was quite unexpected, and came as a shock to friends and relatives.

The funeral services will be held this (Thursday) forenoon, at 10 o'clock at the residence and at 10:30 at the Bethel church. Interment will take place in the Jewell cemetery, where Mrs. Olson's husband lies buried.

The deceased attained the age of 71 years, 6 months and 2 days. She was born in Norway and, with her husband, came to this country in 1861, settling at first in Quebec, Canada, but after two years came to Iowa, where the family had resided ever since. They lived a short time in Poweshiek and Marshall counties before finally moving to Hamilton county, where they purchased a farm about 11 miles northwest of Story City. The family had no sooner arrived here than Mr. Olson died, leaving Mrs. Olson alone to bring up a large family and conduct the farm.

That the deceased succeeded in successfully managing her farm and bringing up her family, in spite of the great difficulties which beset her, bepeaks the study stuff of which she was made. The pioneer spirit was strong in her and obstacles but served to increase her courage and strengthen her resolves.

Three sons and four daughters remain to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. They are: Olaf Olson of Jewell, Dan S. and Eli M. of this place, Mrs. Chris. Solberg of Jewell, Mrs. Haugland, Mrs. Husby and Mrs. Daugherty.

Mrs. Olson removed to Story City seven years ago and her declining days were spent here.
