John H. Kane, 64, died at the hospital last evening following a major operation Saturday morning. Death was caused by cancer of the gall bladder.

Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock with the Rev. Father W.J. Baxter officiating. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery. Foster's in charge.

Mr. Kane became suddenly ill Friday evening and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent an operation early Saturday morning. He grew gradually worse until his death at 9 o'clock last evening.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. George E. Alexander, and two grandchildren, Carolyn and George Alexander, Jr., all of this city. There are also two brothers, Will Kane of Osage, and George Kane, of Charles City, and one sister, Miss Mary Kane, of Charles City.

Mr. Kane has been a resident of this city for the past 24 years, coming here from Osage, where he owned a drug store with his brother.

He was born in Dearfield, Feb. 2, 1871, and attended school there. He also attended business school at Decorah and was graduated from Highland park pharmacy college, Des Moines.

He was married 33 years ago to Miss Lillian Pettigrove [Pettygrove], of New Hampton, and they moved to Osage, where they lived until they moved to this city.

For several years Mr. Kane owned and operated a Variety store here, but sold out about 14 years ago and began working in the Channer drug store.

He also was employed in a drug store at Dows and last September was appointed manager of the state liquor store, when it was opened in this city.

He was a member of the Catholic church and at one time was a member of the Elks lodge and the Knights of Columbus. He was widely known in this city and his sudden death is a great shock to his family and his many friends.
