Dean Royster, 78, Duncombe, died Feb. 11, 1997 at Hamilton County Public Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. R. Karin Peterson officiating. Burial will be at the Washington Township Cemetery in Duncombe. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 491 of Duncombe. Visitation will be at Foster Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today until the time of service.

Harold Dean Royster, son of Dwight and Lulu Schoonover Royster, was born Aug. 15, 1918 on a farm south of Duncombe. He attended a rural school south of Duncombe. He operated a corn shelling and trucking business in the Duncombe area. From 1942 to 1945, he served with the U.S. Marines in the Military Police, in the Pacific Theatre of Action. Following his discharge, he returned to Duncombe. On March 6, 1947 he married Helen Dencklau in Fort Dodge. The couple started farming south of Duncombe. He retired in 1992 and continued farming parttime.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Marsha Royster, Duncombe; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Richard Mueller, Macomb, Mi., Judy and Rick McCormick, Webster City; grandchildren, Nathan, Steven and Lyndsay Mueller, Adam, Aaron and Allan Royster; sisters, Ruth Ball, Cathryn Powers and Carol Brandt, all of Duncombe, Dorothy Legg, Webster City, Pearl Kaufman, Fort Dodge; brother, Charles (Chuck) Royster, Duncombe; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister in infancy.

Mr. Royster was a member of the Duncombe United Methodist Church, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 491 of Duncombe, a member of the N.E.W. Cooperative Board from 1975 to 1981, a member of the V.F.W. No. 5720-Donald Harper Post of Lehigh.
