Woolstock man killed in farm accident

WOOLSTOCK - A freak accident in Wright County has claimed the life of a rural Woolstock man, authorities said this morning.

Jon Ahrendsen, county medical examiner, said that Cyril Hauser, 74, was killed Monday when he apparently fell from a ladder and struck his head on the wall of a grain bin he was cleaning.

Hauser may have fallen as little as two feet, but his neck was broken by the blow to his head, Ahrendsen said. Hauser's obituary and funeral arrangements are listed in today's Daily Freeman Journal.

Cyril (Cy) Hauser, 74, of Woolstock died Monday afternoon in a farming related accident at his home.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Grace United Methodist Church with Dr. Charles Smith officiating. Burial in the Green Mountain Cemetery at Green Mountain, Iowa, will be held Thursday at 3 p.m.

Friends may call at Foster Funeral Home from 5 p.m. Tuesday until 8:30 a.m. Thursday, when the casket will be taken to the church.

Cyril Earnest Hauser, son of Earnest and Nettie (Groce) Hauser, was born July 20, 1913 at State Center. He received his education at Melbourne and Green Mountain. He graduated high school in Green Mountain.

Oct. 19, 1936 he married Alice Sellers. The couple farmed east of Marshalltown. In 1939 they moved to the Williams area and farmed there until March of 1962, when they moved to their farm 7 miles east of Woolstock.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters: Rolland K. Hauser of Chico, Calif., Dennis P. Hauser of Manly, Nita (Mrs. William) Jacobs of Minnetonka, Minn., and Gayle (Mrs. Leo) Kloewer of York, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; two sisters and two brothers, Wilma Krough of Green Mountain, Mildred (Mrs. Harold) Lang of Marshalltown, Donald Hauser of Marshalltown and Vernon Hauser of New Brighton, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. He was a member of the Mulberry Center United Methodist Church, a former member for 10 years of the Williams School Board and a former board member of the Stonega Elevator. He belonged to the Iowa Soybean Assoc., the Williams Lions Club and was an Iowa Master Swine Producer.
