Mrs. Melvin (Irene) Brooks, 54, of 1532 First St., a longtime Webster City resident, died Saturday morning at the University Hospitals in Iowa City. She had been a patient there for one week, but had been in ill health the past two months.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Foster Funeral home with Pastor Tom Waters officiating and with burial at Graceland cemetery.

Irene M. Anderson, daughter of Edward and Jessie Hay Anderson, was born Oct. 14, 1923 at Coalville, Iowa. She was reared in that community and educated in the Fort Dodge community schools.

From 1942 to 1947, she was employed by the Doer Engineering Co. of Denver, Colo.

On Aug. 11, 1948 she was united in marriage to Melvin L. Brooks, and the couple had resided in Webster City for the past 30 years. For the past 10 years, Mrs. Brooks had been an employee in the city manager's office in Webster City.

She is survived by her husband, two sons and one daughter, David L. Brooks and Philip D. Brooks, both of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Steven (Karen) Castle of Charles City; two grandchildren, Erica Jane Castle and Reagan Leslie Brooks; her mother, Mrs. Jessie M. Anderson of Webster City, three sisters and two brothers, Mrs. T. Vincent (Norma) Johnson, Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Selma Hollingshead of Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Marvin (Marian) Benson of Sonora, Calif., Edward E. Anderson of Elmhurst, Ill., and William D. Anderson, Columbia, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Mrs. Brooks was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the board of directors of the Webster City Credit Union.
