Shirley Raines, 66, Webster City, died Oct. 19, 1995 at Hamilton County Public Hospital. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Asbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. The body was cremated. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the memorial service. Foster Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Jean Fry, daughter of Leland and Hazel Fry, was born May 23, 1929 in Vinton. She was educated in Vinton, graduating in 1947. She also attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On December 24, 1949 she married John Gilbert Raines in Vinton. The couple resided in Greeley, Colo., and then in Nemaha. They moved to Webster City, where she was secretary to the school nurse. When they moved to Pocahontas, she was a dispatcher. Upon moving to Vinton, she was employed as a payroll clerk. They also resided in Belle Plaine and while living in Peru, Ill., the couple managed a motel. Her husband died on Sept. 10, 1993, and she moved to Webster City and retired.

She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Dave and Kathy Raines, Vinton, Jeff Raines, Steve Raines, both of Webster City; daughter, Nancy Raines, Marshalltown; grandchildren, Kevin and Becky Raines, Vinton, Alex Raines, Burlington, Wis.; sisters-in-law, Dee Fry, Portville, Calif., Barbara Walker, Granada Hills, Calif., Peg Selbig, Pacific Grove, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Raines in infancy; her parents; and brother, Dale Fry.

She was a member of the United Methodist Women, past president of the Webster City Women's Club and E.L. Chapter of P.E.O. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials.
