Wilbur J. Pingenot, 70, a longtime Webster City resident and former businessman, died this morning at the Hamilton County hospital after having suffered a heart attack earlier today.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Edward Philgreen officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted by the American Legion Post 191.

Wilbur John Pingenot, son of Louis and Ethel Urmy Pingenot, was born Sept. 15, 1913 at Vinton, Iowa where he was reared and educated.

He later resided in Manchester before moving to Webster City where he was married Dec. 25, 1934 to Maureta Paine. The couple resided in Webster City where he was employed by the Hoffman Super Service station. Later he was employed at the Vulgamott Service Station.

He entered the U.S. Navy and served for three years in the South Pacific during World War II.

Following his discharge, he returned to Webster City, later purchasing the Vulgamott station. He operated the station until 1966 after which he farmed north of Webster City. He served 11 years for the Hamilton County Fair board as its secretary.

He retired in 1980 and the family continued to reside at the farm home north of Webster City.

He is survived by his wife; one son and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Rhonda Pingenot of Webster City; a granddaughter, Jennifer Pingenot; one sister and one brother, Mrs. Peter (Florence) Ermels and Harold Pingenot of Sun City, Ariz.; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Ethel Menzel of Shell Rock, Iowa and Mrs. Violet Washburn of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He was a member of the Asbury United Methodist church, the Masonic Lodge, the Elks lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Farm Bureau.
