Following an illness of chronic kidney trouble and hardening of the arteries, Mrs. Henry Sexe died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.O. Johnson, Friday night at 10:45 o'clock. She was 81 years, four months and eight days of age. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:15 at the M.O. Johnson home and at 2 o'clock at the Bethesda Lutheran church in Jewell, of which she was a pioneer member. At the services at the church, Rev. Peder Nordsletten spoke in Norwegian and Rev. G.O. Paulsrud in English. Burial was made in Evergreen cemetery.

Martha Freim was born in Odda, Hardanger, Norway Feb. 2, 1846. She came to America in June, 1868 that same year on Aug. 11. She was united in marriage to Henry O. Sexe in Lee county, Ill. They resided in Lee county two years, going from there to Trempenlear county, Wis., where they remained two years and then moved to Brown county, Minn., where they resided for 7 years. In 1879 they moved to Hamilton county, Iowa where they engaged in farming for many years, living a mile south of Jewell. When strength began to fail them, Mr. and Mrs. Sexe moved to Jewell and lived there until nine years ago, when they moved to the home of their daughter, Mrs. M.O. Johnson, and family, near Randall, where they had since made their home. Eight children were born, two of them passing away in infancy. The children living to mourn the loss of their mother are Alfred Sexe of Billings, Mont.; Chris Sexe of Eddyston, Manitoba, Can.; Mrs. M.O. Johnson, Randall; Mrs. J.D. Grover of Wrenshall, Minn., and Mrs. Anna Buckles of Chicago. The husband, Henry Sexe, also survives, as does a brother, Nels Nelson, of Dayton. She also leaves 32 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sexe was baptized and reared in the Lutheran faith, seeing the necessity of organizing a congregation in Jewell some 40 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Sexe were among the first in the organization of Bethesda Lutheran church of Jewell.
