Earl E. Soop, 71, long time resident of the Webster City area, died early Sunday morning at the Hamilton County Hospital where he had been a patient the past week. He had been in ill health the past several years.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with Tom Waters officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.

Earl Edward Soop, son of Tolman W. and Rosa Beshey Soop, was born Jan. 24, 1907 in the Oak Glen community north of Webster City where he was reared and educated.

He was united in marriage Sept. 16, 1935 to Luella Arends and the couple had resided in Webster City since, where he engaged in the carpentry trade until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters and one son, Mrs. Francis (Betty) Rodewald of Falls City, Ore., Gerald Soop of Tucson, Ariz., and Mrs. Jerrold (Coleen) Sexe of Fort Dodge; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
