Colleen Ruth (Soop) Sexe was born on April 8, 1936 in Webster City, Iowa. Her parents were Earl and Luella (Arends) Soop. Colleen attended classes in Webster City School District and graduated in 1954. She married Jerrold “Jerry” Sexe on September 16, 1956 and together they had 3 children. Colleen had worked as a telephone operator, a stay-at-home mom, a church secretary and a switchboard operator at Trinity Lutheran Hospital in the accounts receivable department for many years. After her husband Jerry died, she took classes at Iowa Central Community College to become a homemaker health aid. Colleen helped many people in this profession until she retired. Colleen would help anyone who asked by running errands or transporting them to doctors’ appointments. She had a heart of gold and was always there to help. Throughout the years, she volunteered for many organizations. When her children were young, she taught Sunday school classes at Epworth United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Colleen was a Camp Fire leader and volunteered for several years in Head Start classrooms and for hospice in Fort Dodge. She also volunteered and joined several groups at her church in Fort Dodge. She was active in helping her children and their families in any way she could, like one hot July spent riding on a bean bar for several days. Colleen loved to load up her grandchildren Lacey, Kelly and Jerrod into her little station wagon and drive from Fort Dodge to Marshalltown to stay at Tom and Kristi's house. The grandkids always had so much fun when Grandma would bring them with.Colleen spent the last 4 years living at Southridge Specialty Care in Marshalltown. She loved doing crafts, playing bingo, and participating in events held at the facility. She enjoyed looking out her window and watching the birds come to her bird feeder. She also looked forward to Kristi picking her up and bringing her to their home to enjoy Sunday dinners, birthday parties, family gatherings. She especially enjoyed watching all her family in action..she would sit and observe the children playing and the best part of it all was being able to hold all those great-grandbabies. A life well lived.

Left to cherish Colleen’s memory are her children: Kim (Duane) Nelson, Ron (Ali) Sexe and Kristi (Tom) Ingleby; grandchildren Kelly (Chris) Simmons, Lacey (Ron) Ahlrichs, Jerrod (Alexa) Nelson, Breanna (David) Arens, Taylor (Leah) Lang, Lindsey (Brian) Talecki, Shannon (Haike) Ingleby, Laura (Tim) Ingleby, 13 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters-in-law: Patty Sexe and Norma Sexe and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Jerry; great-granddaughter London; her parents: Earl and Luella; her 2 siblings: Betty (Soop) Rodewald and Gerald Soop; her father-in-law and mother-in-law and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
