Leo Gibson (Gib) Smith, age 92, of Smithville, Ark., formerly of Lehigh, passed away on March 19, 2005 at the Lawrence Hall Nursing Home in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6 PM Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Doge.

Gib was born on November 12, 1912 on a farm near Border Plains in Webster County. His parents were Lee Logan Smith and LuCelia Brogotti Smith. Gib attended the one room school for elementary grades and Lehigh High School. On August 27, 1932 Gib married Ethel Pearl Hoover at Duncombe, Iowa. Gib and Ethel farmed near Lehigh in Webster County, Iowa until their retirement in 1969. They spent nearly 30 years of their retirement in Lawrence County, Arkansas, where they made many dear friends.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ethel, four daughters, Geraldine and Darrell Ackerman of Blairsburg, IA, Donna and Bo Brasfield of Thorndale, TX, Rosemary and Tom Thomas of Aiken, SC, Sharon Martinez of Elkton, KY and one son, Karl Smith of Paris, TN, one sister, Esther Suszka of Sobieski, MN; and one brother, Dr. Ranson (Pete) Smith and Valerie of Greenvalley, AZ., 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, and three brothers, Frank, Christy and Floyd.
