Howard Nelson, 77, Ellsworth, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A celebration of life gathering will be 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the United Church of Christ in Jewell. Howard's body has been cremated; a private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Israel Family Hospice House, 400 South Dakota in Ames, Iowa 50014. Becker Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.

Howard Eugene Nelson was born November 26, 1927 in Ellsworth to Fred and Gertrude (Wepel) Nelson. He grew up in Ellsworth. During World War II, Howard served in the U.S. Army. On August 10, 1952 Howard married Alice Prine in Webster City. They lived in Ellsworth and worked with their family on the family farm. Howard was an auditor for the Iowa Beer and Liquor Commission. He retired in December 1987 as district manager. Howard enjoyed working at L.G.I. in Ellsworth in his retirement. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Jewell and the American Legion.

Howard is survived by his wife, Alice; children, Deb, Nancy, Scott and Metta, and grandchildren, Natasha and Josh. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Russell.
