Ruth E. Brown, 84, Dayton, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at her home in Dayton. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton. Pastor Bruce Lakamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Carson Funeral Home in Dayton.

Ruth E. Brown was born on Nov. 25, 1919 in Bruce, Ill., the daughter of William and Freda Switzer Abbott. She was confirmed on May 28, 1939 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Webster City. Ruth graduated from the Webster City High School class of 1938. She was united in marriage to Robert "Dewey" Brown on Jan. 14, 1939 in Webster City. The couple farmed northwest of Dayton for 18 years until moving into town in 1976. Robert passed away in 1991.

Ruth belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church in Dayton where she was active with the Ladies Guild. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled American Veteran's Auxiliary, Dayton Golf and Country Club and the Dayton Dreamers Senior Citizen's Club. She enjoyed volunteering at Grandview Health Care Center in Dayton.

She is survived by two daughters, Janice and her husband Jerry Bodine of Issaque, Wash., and Sharon Musselman, Fort Dodge; son, Dick and wife Lou Brown of Sheffield; five grandchildren and spouses, Jerry and Nanci Musselman, Shelly and Keith Peterson, Connie and Val Kleitz, Sarah Brown, Dan and Tammy Brown; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert "Dewey" Brown.

Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
