Richard (Dick) Cheek, 80, of Webster City, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2003 at the Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. John Flaherty celebrant. Burial was in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by American Legion Post #191. Visitation was prior to memorial services.

Richard B. Cheek, son of William and Merle Cooper Cheek, was born December 5, 1922 at Omaha, Ne. He received his education at Omaha and attended the University of Colorado at Boulder. On February 7, 1945 he married Frances Catherine Dunn at Omaha. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Force Central Flying Training Command as a Second Lieutenant. When discharged from the Army, he returned to Omaha. He worked at the Omaha Stockyards until 1958 then worked at the Burlington Cattle Company at Burlington. In 1961, they moved to Sioux City and he worked at the stockyards there. For eight years, he worked at the Central Iowa Stockyards at Webster City. For 11 years, he was an animal inspector for the State of Iowa. For three years, he worked at the Superwash at Webster City. Mrs. Cheek died November 17, 1992. In 1994, he moved to Park Rapids, Mn. Due to failing health, he moved back to Webster City in 2001. He had resided at Southfield for the past year.

Mr. Cheek is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jennie and Rick Ihle of Webster City; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Nancy Cheek of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Jason Ihle, Scott, Michelle, Melissa and Alicia Cheek and great-grandchildren, Abby and Alex Syoc, sister, Adele Donovan of Omaha.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by daughter, Cindy Eubanks in 1987; sons, Gary in 1997 and David in 1998, his parents and a brother, Bill Cheek.

He was a member of the Webster City Country Club and the Webster City Chapter of Alzheimers Association.
