Jane S. Buell, 87, Manhattan, Kan., died Nov. 21, 2003 at Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community in Manhattan. Cremation is planned with private family graveside services to be held at a later date in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat St., Americus, GA., 31709 or Toledo Botanical Gardens, 5403 Elmer Dr., Toledo, Ohio, 43615. The Yorgensen-Melon-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, Kan., is handling arrangements.

She was born May 6, 1916 in Aurora, Ill., the daughter of Harry W. and Clara Banker Seavey, and had lived in Manhattan for the past two years. Mrs. Buell was an elementary art teacher in Whiteford School in Sylvania, Ohio, until her retirement. Jane enjoyed traveling internationally and volunteered for many organizations. Among them are the Unitarian Church, International Institute, Toledo Botanical Gardens, Compass Club and AAUW. She was known for her collection of hats and dolls she collected from the 89 countries she visited and gave many talks about them to various organizations.

She married Robert Buell on June 30, 1945 in Aurora, Ill. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Alberta Anthony and Martha Giese.

Survivors include one Harvey Seavey of Aurora, Ill., five nieces and nephews, Harry Seavey Anthony, Lisa Gardner, Nancy Buell-Reasland, Aaron and Mark Giese, and a special cousin, Art Frasier.
