Allen Van Sickle, 89, of Woolstock, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Duncombe, with Rev. Brad Pelzel, celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, north of Duncombe. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Allen George Van Sickle, son of Charles and Alta Kleckler Van Sickle was born November 21, 1913 in Stephenson County near McConnell, Illinois. In 1919, he moved with his family to a farm northwest of Webster City. He grew up on several farms in the Webster City, Woolstock and Marble Rock areas. He also lived for a short time in Minnesota. He graduated from Webster City high school in 1931 and worked as a farm hand for several area farmers. He served in the U.S. Navy in submarines from 1934 to 1938. He married Ethel Mae Koestner on June 11, 1941 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Duncombe. The couple farmed near Swaledale, Iowa, then in 1942, they moved to the family farm southwest of Woolstock. He retired from farming in 1976, but continued to reside on the farm, helping his son, Harold. He had resided at the Villa Care Center since August of this year.

Mr. Van Sickle is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae and son, Harold, both of Woolstock, brothers and sister-in-law, Kenneth Van Sickle of Fort Dodge; Leslie and Claudine Van Sickle of Prescott Valley, Az., sisters and brother-in-law, Beulah Nail of Webster City, Ursula and LeRoy Bamman of Spring Valley, Wi. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leland, Glenn, Charles and Lester Van Sickle.

He was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at Duncombe.
