John F. Mellinger, 69, of Newburgh, died Saturday, January 15, 2005 at Cypress Grove.

John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons, Steven, Donald and wife, Linda, Greg and wife, Joni, Kris and wife Leslie; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister, Joan. He will be sadly missed by all.

While in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, he completed 16 weeks of a training cycle with a unit of the 6th Armored Division at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. He then went to engineering school for U.S. Army at Ft. Belvair, VA. He also witnessed eleven atomic bombs at Yucca Flats, NV., Camp Desert Rock, atomic test center.

John's career has been in the electrical field in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. The past several years he worked for several architects and contractors as an inspector/job superintendent.

Friends may call Tuesday, January 18, 2005 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Alexander Newburg Chapel. Burial will be at a later date.
