George Shafer, 81, of Webster City, died Friday, January 14, 2005 at his home. A gathering will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Alfred Rau officiating. Burial will be in the Cass Township Cemetery. Arrangements were made with the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center.

George Willis Shafer, son of George and Grace McDaniel Shafer, was born February 9, 1923 at Webster City. He attended Cass #5 rural school and graduated from Lincoln High at Webster City in 1941. He served with the U.S. Army - Company E Second Regiment - Quartermaster at Fort Warren, Wyoming. He worked with the U.S. Postal Service in Webster City for 34 years as a carrier, retiring in 1978 to his acreage.

George is survived by his sister, Verla MacCanon of Marshalltown, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Harriet Whaley and Ada Shafer; brothers, Reuben and Henry Shafer.

He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Acacia Masonic Lodge #176 A.F. and A.M., Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines and American Legion Post #191.
