Jack L. Hatcher, 86, of Webster City, died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 at the Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Foster Chapel, with Rev. Pete Peterson officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.

Jack Leslie Hatcher, son of Elmer and Minnie Koewn Hatcher, was born May 20, 1918 on a farm near Davis County. He attended a rural school in Davis County. During W.W. II, he served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Yorktown in the Pacific Theatre of Action. On May 7, 1938 he married Mertie Esther Frost at Grand River, IA. The couple farmed near Davis City, then moved to a farm east of Webster City in 1949. They moved to Webster City in 1951. He had been employed at Arrow-Acme and Silverstein's Salvage Yard at Webster City and also worked road maintenance for Hamilton County.

Mertie Hatcher died February 16, 1973. On February 14, 1975, he married Jeanetta Helton Clark at Webster City. He continued to work for Hamilton County, later operating Jack and Jean's Lounge for 28 years. They retired in 2001.

Mr. Hatcher is survived by his wife, Jean; sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Jeri Hatcher of Kenosha, Wi., Larry and Darlene Hatcher of Cedar Falls, Chong Hatcher of Wahiawa, Hawaii, step-daughters and spouses, Bev and Earl Stewart and Debbie and Jerry Ragland, all of Webster City; Judy and Craig Clemens of Ferris, Tx.; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, sister, Elaine Lynch of College Station, Wa., several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Maurice Hatcher, who died on August 24, 2004, his parents, brothers, Wayne, Lee and Richard Hatcher and Elmer Alois, sisters, Thelma Miekel, Juanita Graves, Vava Boswell, Madeline Craig, Happy (Samuella) Paris, Margaret Hamilton and Belva Hatcher.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #191, V.F.W. and the Moose Family Center.
