Willis Hans Abramson, 93, died October 6, 2004 at Israel Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services will be held at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Jewell, on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 1:30 p.m.

Willis, son of August and Bertha (Barkema) Abramson, was born September 5, 1911 in Jewell, Iowa. At age 18, he left Jewell and rode the rails to Fresno, California to live with his Uncle Henry and Aunt Lizzie Barkema. He worked as a truck driver. He served in World War II in England and Germany. After the war he returned to Jewell and married Virginia Wilson from Webster City, Iowa. They moved back to California. He worked as a fire chief and for United Air Lines.

He is survived by a son, Lowell of Big Lake, Alaska; step-daughter Janice and husband Vernon Cook of Port Orchard, Washington; twin sister, Wilma Hecht and brother Claude Abramson, both of Jewell; a special niece Betty Clark of Ames who took care of him for the last 2 1/2 years, and several nieces and nephews.

Willis was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Virginia, a step daughter Lexie Wooden, and brothers Lloyd, Sterling, Laurence and Clifford and his sister Jeanette Roe.
