David D. Atchison, 65, of West Des Moines, formerly of Webster City, died Sunday, October 3, 2004 at his home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Webster City, with Rev. John Flaherty, celebrant. Following the luncheon at the church, burial will be in Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery in Moorland, Iowa with Graveside Military Rites conducted by the American Legion Post #191 of Webster City. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center, Webster City, with a scripture service to be held at 7 p.m.

David Dean Atchison, son of John and Naomi Butler Atchison, was born on May 18, 1939 in Long Beach, California. He received his education from the Redondo Beach California Schools where he graduated in 1958. Following his graduation, he entered the U.S. Marines. On August 6, 1960 he married Margaret Colleen Lawrence at the Naval Air Base at Alameda, CA. David was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1962. The couple resided in Livermore, CA until 1974 when they moved to Webster City. While in Livermore, he was a truck driver for Clausen Brothers, Livermore Labs and R.E.A. Express. He had also been a driver for Umthun Trucking, Van Diest Supply, Smithway Motor Xpress and Baker Trucking. Mrs. Atchison died on March 12, 2000. David moved to West Des Moines in April of 2000.

Survivors include his 3 sons and daughters-in-law, David and DeAnn Atchison of West Des Moines, John and Tammie Atchison of Sioux City, Paul and Amy Atchison of Duncombe; grandchildren, Jennifer, Mary, Cera, Devin, John Jr., Jacob, Maggie Jo and Anna Atchison, brothers, John Thomas Atchison III and wife Patty of Palm Desert, CA., Jerry Atchison of Earp, CA and sister Janet Wood of Las Vegas, NV.

Mr. Atchison was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Webster City.
