Walter Peterson, age 68, of Jewell, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Community Church of Kamrar with Pastor Todd Jones to officiate. Burial will be in Fort Dodge at a later date. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Louis Walter Peterson Jr. (Walt), son of Louis Walter Peterson Sr. and Minnie (Gienap) Peterson was born June 20, 1936 at Fort Dodge, Iowa. Walt was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School and attended many technical schools. On June 23, 1957 Walt was united in marriage to Charlotte Freeman Thompson at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Dodge. To this union were born three sons. They made Jewell their home for the past 32 years. Walt spent most of his life working on International Harvester tractors. He worked 36 years for Jewell Implement. He also enjoyed camping, working on old cars and tractors and collecting toy cars, tractors and Hot Wheels. Walt spent much of his free time with his grandchildren.

Walt is survived by his wife, "the love of his life", Charlotte of Jewell, sons, Perry and wife, Shari of Roland and Andrew and wife, Julie of Jewell, grandchildren, Michael and Kristin Peterson of Jewell, brothers, Lavern and Charles and wife, Doris Peterson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; sister, Erma Scharfenberg of Sterling, Illinois; other relatives and a host of friends. Walt was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Mildred Heuser, Ethlyn Stirler and Ermal Davey.
