Irene Richards, 87, of Webster City, died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 at the Southfield Wellness Community. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at the Alden Cemetery in Alden, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center, Webster City.

Irene Emma Klein, daughter of Ferdinand and Augusta Lange Klein was born on October 28, 1916 at Alden. She received her education from the Alden Schools. On May 28, 1951 she married Lee Bolton Richards at Alden. The couple resided in Webster City. She was employed as a store clerk for over 18 years at J.C. Penney's in Webster City until retiring in 1984. She had been residing at Southfield since June of 2003.

In addition to her husband Lee, she is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Sylvia Richards of Des Moines, Kevin and Dawn Richards of LeMars; grandchildren, Nicholas, Paige and Michael Richards of Des Moines; Ian, Colin and Evan Richards of LeMars; sisters and brother-in-law, Edna Sanders, Lillian Locke, Doris and Maynard Rieks, all of Iowa Falls, Esther Pfeffer of Cedar Rapids; brother and sister-in-law, Irvin (Bud) and Mavis Klein of Iowa Falls and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Anna Kastendick and Elsa Klein; brothers, William in infancy, Fred Paul, Frank, Herman, Walter and Robert Klein.

She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was active in the ladies and various other church circles. Irene loved to cook and spend time with her family and friends.
