Samuel P. Shaeffer, 82, Webster City, died Friday, August 6, 2004 at a friend's home in Osage, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #191 of Webster City. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Samuel Paul Shaeffer, son of Russell and Juanita Siefort Shaeffer was born July 8, 1922 on a farm in northern Boone County. He received his education from the Boone Community Schools, graduating from Boone High School in 1940. Following high school, he was employed by A & P Grocery in Boone. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in China, India and Burma as a radio operator. On July 18, 1943 he married Dolores Mae Kingsley at Webster City. Following his discharge, the couple resided in Webster City. He worked for several years at Beam Manufacturing (Electrolux) before beginning his career with the U.S. Railway Post Office. He transferred to the U.S. Postal Service at Webster City and was a rural mail carrier at Blairsburg until retiring in 1979. In 1986, the couple moved to Osage, Minn. They returned to Webster City in 1999. Mrs. Shaeffer died on Nov. 25, 2002.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sue and Bob Asklund, Lori Kelly and Tom Halvorson, all of Webster City; grandchildren, Carla and Tom Grooms, Wendy and Tom Hartmann, Jason and Tanya Asklund, all of Webster City; Brian and Catherine Asklund of Bondurant; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harlan and Margaret Shaeffer, Harold and Leona Shaeffer, all of Des Moines; Ted and Dolores Shaeffer of Indianola; sister, Juanita Campbell of Eldridge; sister-in-law, Bernice Shaeffer of Boone; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife, Dolores, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Loran and Floyd Shaeffer, sister Ardys Campbell, and brothers-in-law, Lester and Roger Campbell.

He was a member of the Osage Baptist Church, Osage, Minn., Osage Lions Club and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a 59-year member of the American Legion Post #191 of Webster City and a past member of the First Baptist Church, Webster City.
