Jane Currie McGahey passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at the age of 87. She was born Mary Jane Currie on January 2, 1917 to Clare H. and Jessie W. Currie in Webster City, Iowa where she attended elementary and high schools. In 1936, she graduated from Webster City Junior College and earned a B.S. degree in 1939 from Iowa State University, where she majored in Institution Management. During her college years, she was affiliated with Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honorary, Mortar Board, Sigma Alpha Iota music fraternity and Delta Delta Delta social sorority.

In 1942, Jane married William B. McGahey. They resided in Chicago for four years while her husband attended medical school, and then moved to Mobile, Alabama where Dr. McGahey was stationed at the U.S. Marine Hospital. Later, they resided in Stratford, Iowa and Webster City, Iowa, where her husband engaged in family practice of medicine from 1948 to 1960.

In 1960, Jane relocated with her family to Scottsdale, Arizona. In 1975, they moved to Sacramento, CA, where she lived until November 2003. For the past six months of her life, Jane has enjoyed life at a retirement community in Sandy, Utah.

Jane's working career included positions in the food service departments at Northern Iowa University (formerly ISTC) and at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington; and in Chicago at IBM Corporation as instructor of office machines. She was a devoted homemaker and mother to her two children, and assisted her husband in his medical practice in later years.

Jane was active in medical society auxiliaries in Iowa and Arizona. She was a long-standing member of PEO and affiliated with the Congregational Church. Jane had a talent for fabric arts and enjoyed sewing, knitting and weaving. She was a sharp-minded woman who couldn't start her day without completing a crossword puzzle. An avid traveler in her senior years, she visited Morocco and Panama and traveled through Europe and the US.

Jane is survived by a son, William C. McGahey of Rogue River, OR; a daughter, Nancy McGahey-McGraw of Herman, UT; a brother, Frank H. Currie of San Bernadino, CA, numerous nieces and nephews; and many loving, devoted friends.
