Walter C. Peter, 94, Stanhope, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Crestview Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center in Webster City. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery.

Walter Chris Peter, son of Carl and Louise Schmidt Peter, was born Aug. 7, 1909 on a farm near Mackey in Boone County. He received his education in rural schools in Boone County. On March 10, 1935 he married Frances Olsen at Fort Dodge. The couple farmed and ran a cattle-feeding operation north of Stanhope.

Mr. Peter is survived by his wife, Frances, sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Miriam Peter; Roger and Helen Peter, all of Stanhope; brothers, Albert Peter of Browerville, Minn.; Carl and Harold Peter, both of Algona; sisters, Gertrude Olson of Thor; Caroline Luedike of Lone Rock, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Edwin, Rudolph and Elmer Peter; sister, Hilda Zumach.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
