Vern Pigsley, 98, of Webster City [Iowa], died April 8, 2004, at Trinity Regional Medical center in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be held Friday, April 30, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Webster City with Denis Thompson officiating.

Vern is survived by his sons, Delburt, Eldon, and Ivan; his daughter Jeri Hayes; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harvey and Dorthy Fries, and sister-in-law Kristina Fries. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emaline, three daughters, Norma, Carol, and Carolee; his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Vern was born in Wiota, Iowa on April 30, 1905. He married Emaline Fries in 1932. Vern worked in the sales field and farming. During World War II, he worked as a foreman at the Martin Bomber Plant in Omaha, Neb.

Vern was an active member of Faith Community Church in Webster City and he was active in the Republican Party, keeping up on current events. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and canned a lot of his own produce. He and Emaline traveled in all 50 states. He spent over 20 years wintering in Texas. Above all else, Vern was a faithful ambassador for Christ.
