Genevieve M. Johnson, 86, of Stratford, Iowa passed away at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa on Tuesday morning, April 6, 2004 due to complications of cancer. She had been a resident at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa for the past few days.

She was born on December 9, 1917 on a farm northeast of Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Elsie (Good) Mott.

On August 24, 1938 she married Vernon L. Johnson at the South Marion United Methodist Church Parsonage in Stratford, Iowa.

Genevieve attended school in Harrison Township and Stanhope Consolidated High School, graduating in 1935. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Stratford area. She clerked at several Boone stores and worked three years at Bourns in Ames, Iowa.

Genevieve was a life long member of South Marion United Methodist Church where she held many offices and participated in the Women's Society of Christian Service. She enjoyed her family, gardening and flowers.

Her parents in 1971, husband Vernon in October of 1983, and one son David in 1997 preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, one daughter-in-law, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, serveral nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Services were held on Friday morning April 9th at 10:30 a.m. at the South Marion United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa with Rev. Kent Kastler and Layperson Gina Spohnheimer officiating.

Interment was in South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the South Marion United Methodist Church.

Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
