Bernard Neuman, 85, Ellsworth, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 at his home in Ellsworth. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Jewell with Rev. Raymond Burkle to officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery near Ellsworth. Friends may call Monday at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church from 4-8 p.m. There will be a wake service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be sent to the Greenwood Cemetery Association, PO Box 307, Ellsworth, IA 50075.

Bernard John Neuman, son of Joseph and Christina Goeddertz Neuman, was born Sept. 9, 1914 in St. Benedict, IA. He sold Ford automobiles in the Swea City area. He married Palma Lande at Sacred Heart Parsonage in Ledyard, IA on May 10, 1939. They began farming in the Ledyard area prior to moving to the family farm near Ellsworth in 1944. The farm they lived on was recognized as a centennial farm and remains in the family today. They wintered in Tucson, AZ. He retired from farming in 1976 and moved to Ellsworth.

Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Deanne and Peyton Neal of Washington, DC., his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Paula Neuman of Ellsworth; four grandchildren, Angela, Eric, Jenna and Devin; two sisters, Marie Fisherback of Austin, MN and Hilda Lappe of Bancroft.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Palma in 1982, his son, Richard Neuman in 1993, two brothers, Frank and Joseph Neuman, and three sisters, Verena Kalkbrenner, Margaret Rowlet and Mathilda Lappe.
