Richard D. Thompson, 68, Windsor Heights, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. The body was cremated and memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at West Des Moines Christian Church, of which he was a member. Family will greet friends following services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, Izaak Walton League or Beaverdale Veterans of Foreign Wars. Brooks Funeral Care is handling the arrangements.

Richard Thompson was born in Des Moines and had lived in the area most of his life. He was a retired manager for US West in Des Moines and Webster City and also had worked for Paramount Design Co. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Izaak Walton League. He loved fishing, golf, woodworking and carving.

Survivors are his wife, Donna, a son Dan Thompson of Carroll, two daughters, Denise Conrad of Milwaukee and Darcy Swon of Webster City; a brother, Raymond Thompson of Earlham; two sisters, Colleen Cowen of Kimberling City, MO., and Edith Butler of Des Moines, and five grandchildren.
