Ruth Chalfant, 87, Webster City, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000 at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday.
Ruth Arlene Eslick, daughter of Laurence and Ada Hoshaw Eslick, was born Sept. 14, 1913 on a farm southwest of Homer. She received her education from Lincoln High School in 1931. On March 22, 1933, she married Clifford Charles Chalfant at Waterloo. The couple farmed for six years southeast of Webster City, then moved to a farm north of Webster City. Mr. Chalfant died Dec. 6, 1964. She moved to Webster City in 1965. She was employed at the Hamilton County Hospital for 11 years, retiring in Sept. of 1978.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Calvin and JoAnn Chalfant of Kimberling City, MO., Roger and Shirley Chalfant of Wenatchee, Wash., daughter and son-in-law, Christine and Don Koestner, Webster City; grandchildren, Michael, Kevin, Paul, Anthony and Jon Chalfant, Lisa and Cynthia Smith, Deborah and Mitchell Koestner, special friend Evan Kennedy, Webster City; sisters, Zoe Peterson of Storm Lake, Beverly Bria of Bessemer, Mich., brother, Verne Eslick, Webster City, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Laurence Paul Eslick.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Meals on Wheels.
