Harold S. "Buck" Burgess, 62, died Sept. 4, 2000 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Memorial services were held Sept. 9 in Colorado Springs.

Mr. Burgess was born April 8, 1938 in Pontiac, Mich., the son of Orville and Louise Moore Burgess. He served 21 years as a police officer in the US Marine Corps and in Colorado. Additionally, he was the police chief in both Lamar, Colo. for five years and Marshfield, Wis. for seven years, plus service as Assistant Chief of Police in Fond Du Lac, Wis. for four years.

He was a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va. He had also worked as a private investigator for three years in Colorado Springs, and as an agent for American Amicable Life Insurance Company of Texas.

Survivors are his father, Orville of Alden, Iowa, five children, Michael Jon Burgess, Colorado Springs, Daniel Matson of Harrisonville, Mo., Kevin Matson, Westminster, Calif., Valerie Ann Burgess, Colorado Springs and Cathy Delozier of Fayetteville, Ark.; six grandchildren.

Mountain View Mortuary in Colorado Springs had charge of arrangements.

[both of his parents are deceased and buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, Iowa]
