Viola Wearda, 88, Webster City, died Wednesday, August 9, 2000 at Southfield Care Center. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. Travis Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Viola Beatrice Elkin, daughter of Griff and Lucy Sparks Elkin, was born August 7, 1912 at Kerrick, Ill. She moved to the Williams area, then to Webster City. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Webster City in 1931. For three years, she taught in rural schools. On Sept. 6, 1934, she married Harry Martin Wearda at Webster City. The couple farmed south of Webster City for 60 years. She was a homemaker.

Survivors are her husband, Harry; daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Merle Heinzeroth of Alden, Marlene and Wayne Jackson of Webster City, Phyllis and Bruce McConnell of Littleton, Colo., son Robert Wearda, Winter Park, Colo.; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, brothers, Carl and Donald Elkin, both of Webster City; Griff Elkin of Eagle Grove; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Tom Heinzeroth, brothers, Percy, Virgil, Elmer and Gilbert Elkin; sisters, Bertha Crystal, Helen Fox, Ruby Rasmussen and Lillis Elkin.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Paul's Ladies Aid, EOW (Every Other Wednesday) Club, SOS (Sit or Sew) Club, and the Webster City Garden Club.
