Irvin R. Abbas, 83, Alden, died Tuesday, August 1, 2000 at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital in Iowa Falls. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Christian Reformed Church in Austinville with Rev. George McGuire officiating. Burial will be in the Alden cemetery. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Surls Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Irvin R. Abbas was born July 28, 1917 at home in Grundy County to Joe and Anna (Grulke) Abbas. He attended Hazel Green School, rural Ackley. He was in the Army Air Corps from 1943-45. He married Lillian Oelmann on May 22, 1946 at Austinville. He retired from farming in 1998. He was a former member of the Iowa Falls Christian Reformed Church and former member of the Collins-Dunning American Legion Post #201 of Alden. He was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Austinville. His past activities included serving as Elder, Superintendent of Sunday School and Catechism teacher.

Survivors are his wife Lillian; three daughters, Linda Jass and her husband, Tom of Brandon, S.D., Shirley Johnson of Spencer and Lavonne Breitenkamp and her husband Bill, Webster City; nine grandchildren, Luke and Jacob Jass, Matthew and Nathaniel Johnson, William Breitenkamp, Leah and Maria Jass, Maggie and Abbie Breitenkamp; and sister Mildred Rewerts of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
