William “Bill” Busch was born November 6, 1948, at the Jewell Hospital. He was raised in Ellsworth and Jewell by parents Clifford and Helen (Kantak) Busch. After graduating from South Hamilton High School in 1966, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy in the Vietnam War for 6 years, serving on USS Renshaw, USS Uhlmann, and USS Claud Jones. After service, Bill returned to Ellsworth and entered Iowa Central Community College. After a period of full-time employment, Bill completed his college education at Iowa State University graduating from the Business College in 1992. Bill married Donna Widick on November 23, 1974, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City.

Bill’s working career included the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames, Central Iowa Cooperative in Jewell, and South Hamilton Community Schools. Bill was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church where he held elected offices and served on many boards. One of his greatest pleasures was being the coordinator of the weekly potluck, Tuesday Together Time. Bill always enjoyed discussing sports and “the good old days” with anyone and was always ready to express his loyalty for the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Iowa State Cyclones. Bill especially enjoyed talking about college and studies with his grandchildren and others.
