Johnny West, 71, rural Duncombe, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Foster Funeral Home, with Pastor Allen Treibel officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service on Friday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #191.

John West Jr., son of John and Dolly Dudley West, was born July 17, 1931 at Centerville, Iowa. He attended rural schools at Graysville and Unionville, Mo. He entered the U.S. Army-Engineers and was stationed in Germany. Following his discharge, he moved to Webster City. He married Patricia Illene Bentley at Webster City on Dec. 25, 1956. The couple resided at Webster City. He was employed for 41 years as a forklift operator at Electrolux. Mr. West retired in 1995 and moved to a farm northeast of Duncombe.

Mr. West is survived by his wife, Patricia, sons and daughters-in-law, Larry West; Gary and Tina West, all of Duncombe; Johnny and Brenda West of Webster City, daughters and son-in-law, Brenda and Ron Fortune of Eagle Grove; Illene West of Webster City, grandchildren, Jennifer Fortune, Eagle Grove, Kyle West of Webster City; sister Margaret Burton of Fort Smith, Ark., several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Wayne West; brother, Harold West and sister, Dorothy Stogdill.

He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
