Merrill Williams, 77, Webster City, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Hamilton Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foster Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Vernon officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation is at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and prior to the service on Thursday.

Willis Merrill Williams, son of Virgil and Helen Weir Williams, was born June 4, 1925 on a farm near Homer, where he attended rural schools and graduated from Webster City High School. He served in the military for a short time. For many years, he was a custodian at Webster City Junior High and Iowa Central Community College-Webster City Campus. After retirement, he operated a lawn care service. In 1972, he married Ione Butler. The couple later divorced.

Mr. Williams is survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Marilyn Williams; step-sister Audrey Warland, all of Webster City; step-sister Karen Vosberg of Manson; step-brothers, Robert Harridge of Mesa, Ariz., and Garry Harridge of Cape Cod, Maine; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Marvin Williams; and step mother Clarice Harridge Williams.

He was a member of First Congregational Church.
