Ruth Hunter Warren, 98, longtime resident of Shingle Springs, Calif., Ellsworth and Webster City, died April 11 in Placerville, Calif., after a brief illness. Services will be held Saturday, May 3 at the Folsom Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m.

Ruth was born in Webster City on August 27, 1904, the daughter of William Fremont Hunter and Minnie Jane Pettinger Hunter. She was a graduate of Frances Shimer College in Illinois and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. She worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation and was Executive Secretary to State Sen. Irving Knudson in Des Moines where she met her husband, Charles (Chuck) V. Warren while he was with the Associated Press. They were married on July 7, 1937 in Chevy Chase, Maryland and lived in Alexandria, VA., while Chuck served as Director of Information for the Department of Transportation. Ruth and Chuck were co-owners of the Webster City, Iowa Daily Freeman Journal from the mid-1940s to the 1950s. They founded KJFJ Radio (now KQWC) and were owners of KSMN in Mason City. They also owned and operated the Jewell Record (now the South Hamilton Record News) and the Stratford Courier. Ruth was active in Ladies Aid at First Congregational Church in Webster City. After moving to Shingle Springs, Calif. in 1969, she and Chuck were active in the Folsom Presbyterian Church and in Senior Citizens in Placerville, Calif.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Warren, her sister, Gayle Bladine, her daughter Geraldine Findley, a son Charles Warren. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Christianson of Jewell and Diane Laustrup of Fairfield, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and beloved caregiver, Annabel Rageci.
