E.J. "Dewey" Doyle, 80, of Williams, died Thursday, March 13, 2003 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services were Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Williams with burial in the Williams Cemetery. Surls Funeral Chapel in Williams was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Doyle was born April 13, 1922 at Williams, the son of George and Mary Handfelt Doyle. He graduated from Williams High School in 1939 and Ellsworth College in 1941. He was in the U.S. Army from 1942-46. He married Blanche Jaynes on July 17, 1944 in Mason City. Mr. Doyle was a postmaster and self-employed carpenter. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Williams, a past member of the Lions Club, a 58 year member of the American Legion; was town clerk and a volunteer for the rescue department.

He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins, working with his hands and building his own home. He enjoyed his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and three great-grandsons who brought him much joy.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Susan Doyle of Ames, Dick and Linda Doyle of Story City; three granddaughters, Angela Hewitt and husband Chris and family C.J. and Carter of Jewell; Alison Doyle and son Tyler of Ames; and Abby Doyle of Pella; and four grandsons, Cale Doyle of Riverside and Tim, Travis and Kevin Doyle of Story City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Blanche in 2001, and two sisters, Margaret Bryan and Arlene Vulgamott.
