Jessie Bechtel, 89, formerly of Stratford, died Jan. 14, 2003, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge.

Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford. The Rev. Kent Kastler will officiate. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery north of Stratford.

Mrs. Bechtel, the daughter of Fred and Eleanor (Angstrom) Schierholz, was born March 19, 1913 at Ogden.

She married Lovell Earl Bechtel at Omaha, Neb. Mrs. Bechtel attended Stratford schools, was a homemaker and volunteered at the Grandview Care Center.

She was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, and was a resident at the Grandview Care Center in Dayton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lovell; three stepsons, Kenny Bechtel, Earl Bechtel and DeWayne Bechtel; and two step-daughters, Shirley Lundberg and Nancy Bechtel.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Arvilla Nunley of Stratford; three step-sons Melvin Bechtel of Stratford, Roland Bechtel and his wife Angela of Clinton, and Jerry Bechtel and his wife Irene of Clinton; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and again 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Stratford. Visitation will continue from noon until the time of service at the church. The family will be present at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.
